Cryptocurrency Entrepreneur Eats $6.2 Million “Banana Art” in Hong Kong

In a surprising twist, Justin Sun, a cryptocurrency entrepreneur, made headlines on Friday by eating a $6.2 million piece of conceptual art—a banana duct-taped to a wall. The event took place at a press conference held in The Peninsula Hong Kong, one of the city’s most luxurious hotels.

Sun, who was born in China and is known for his bold publicity stunts, peeled the banana from the wall before savoring it in front of the media.

“It tastes much better than other bananas. Indeed, quite good,” Sun remarked humorously as he enjoyed the fruit.

The banana, originally part of an artwork titled Comedian by artist Maurizio Cattelan, became a viral sensation when it debuted at Art Basel in Miami in 2019. Sun had purchased the piece as part of his eclectic collection, blending his passion for art with his entrepreneurial flair.

While the original artwork’s high price tag drew skepticism about the nature of modern art, Sun’s decision to eat the banana has reignited debates about the value and meaning of conceptual art.
